There is hereby established the office of Electrical
Inspector, who shall make appropriate electrical inspection on construction
sites in the Borough of Ridgefield in accordance with the Building
Code and other appropriate ordinances of the Borough of Ridgefield.
The chief inspector and each of the duly appointed
inspectors of the Middle Department Association of Fire Underwriters
are hereby authorized and deputized as agents of the Borough of Ridgefield
to make inspections and reinspections of all electrical installations
heretofore and hereafter described and to approve or disapprove the
same. In no event, however, shall the cost or expense of such inspections
and reinspections be a charge against the Borough of Ridgefield.
The Inspector shall, upon written request from
the Chief of the Fire Department, make or cause to be made an inspection
of any existing electrical installation when, in the opinion of the
Chief of the Fire Department, the condition of the installation warrants
such an inspection.
The Middle Department Association of Fire Underwriters
shall file with the Chief of the Fire Department a report of all inspections
made and shall have the authority during reasonable hours to enter
any building or premises for the purpose of making an inspection or
test of the electrical installation contained therein.
The Chief of the Fire Department shall keep
on file a record of all violation reports received from the Middle
Department Association of Fire Underwriters until such violations
are corrected and approval issued by the Middle Department Association
of Fire Underwriters. When an electrical installation which is connected
to the supply of electricity has been reported in violation of the
requirements of this Part 8, the Chief of the Fire Department shall
notify the person, firm or corporation owning or using the installation.
If, after a period of 10 days has elapsed, or such further reasonable
time as may be granted upon request, the installation has not been
approved by the Middle Department of Fire Underwriters, the Chief
of the Fire Department shall have the authority to disconnect or order
the disconnection of electrical service to said electrical installation.
In cases of emergency, when necessary for safety to persons or property,
or when electrical equipment may interfere with the work of the Fire
Department, the Chief of the Fire Department shall have the authority
to disconnect or order the disconnection immediately of service to
electrical installations.
