Editor's Note: The Classification Plan is on file in the City offices.
The Classification Plan provides an inventory of positions in the City service and a description and specification for each class of employment. This standardization is indicative of a range of duties and responsibilities that have the same meaning throughout the Classification Plan.
The Classification Plan shall contain the following information pertaining to classes of positions:
A.
Grouping and classes of positions which are approximately equal in difficulty and responsibility, which call for the same general qualifications and which can be equitably compensated within the same range of pay under similar working conditions.
B.
Class titles, descriptive of the work of the class, which identify the class.
C.
Written specifications for each class of positions.
D.
An allocation list showing the class titles of each position in the classified service as identified by name of the incumbent.
The specifications are to be interpreted in their entirety and in relation to others in the Classification Plan. Specifications are deemed to be descriptive and explanatory of the kind of work performed and not necessarily inclusive of all duties performed.
The class titles set forth in the Classification Plan shall be the official titles designating the several classes and shall be used to designate such positions in all office records, vouchers, payroll and communications concerning personnel. No person shall be appointed to or employed in a position in the classified service under a class title which has not been approved by the City Manager as appropriate to the duties performed.
