The intent of this article is to provide merit
principles for the selection of the appointment of wastewater treatment
plant operators for Tinicum Township, a first class township, without
regard to race, creed, color, religion, sex or political affiliation.
The provisions of this article shall be administered
by the Tinicum Township Civil Service Commission in accordance with
the Act of 1931, June 24, P.L. 1206, Article VI, Section 625, added
1949, May 27, P.L. 1955, Section 20 (53 P.S. § 55625), governing
the appointment of police and firemen, under the direction of the
Township Commissioners.
The rules, regulations and procedures under
this article shall be the same as govern the recruitment, examination
and appointment of police officers and firemen in Tinicum Township,
with the exception of the following: Section 303, as it applies to
age, and Section 304, as it applies to education.
All employees must complete an examination required
by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. All certified
employees, will, as of this date, be subject to the above provisions,
and all new employees will be required, as of July 1, 1977, to take
and pass the state examination and any other examination the Township
Commissioners may deem necessary.
All certified operators shall be deemed to be
employees under civil service and may be suspended, removed or reduced
in rank only for the reasons set forth by statutes regarding police
or firemen, as set forth by the Act of 1931, June 24, as amended (53
P.S. § 55645 et seq.). The present Civil Service Commission
of Tinicum Township shall serve as the body to which appeals can be
made. Each employee shall have the right of appeal and be provided
the protection set forth in the First Class Township Code covering
civil service for the police and firemen, as set forth by the Act
of 1931, June 24, as amended (53 P.S. § 55625 et seq.).
