For purposes of this chapter, "silly string"
means an aerosol can from which string-shaped foam-like material may
be sprayed.
No person, business, firm or corporation within
the City of Meriden shall:
A.
Offer for sale or sell silly string or like products
to a minor unless said minor is accompanied by a parent or legal guardian
at the time of the sale.
B.
Store or display silly string or like products for
sale unless such items are contained within a locked case or located
behind a sale counter or in some other manner which restricts public
access to such products. No peddler or itinerant or transient business,
whether or not licensed, shall offer silly string or like products
for sale.
C.
Offer for sale or sell, distribute or cause to be
distributed or use or possess silly string or like products at, upon
or within public parks, buildings, streets, sidewalks, accessways
or parking lots, or any other public property.
This chapter shall not apply to silly string
or like products in transit or storage in interstate commerce.
Any person who violates any provision of this
chapter shall be subject to a fine of $99. The provisions of this
chapter shall be enforced by citation, in addition to such other remedies
as may be allowed by law. Any Meriden police officer shall be authorized
to issue citations for violation of this chapter. Any person who violates
any provision of this chapter shall also be responsible for the cost
of cleaning, repairing, or otherwise restoring any property damaged
by said violation to the condition it was before such damage.
