The Maplewood Arts Council (MAC) is hereby established.
The purpose of the Maplewood Arts Council shall be to advise
the Township Committee and the Department of Recreation, Parks and
Cultural Affairs ("Recreation Department") on arts in the Township,
and shall work with the Township Committee and the Recreation Department
on the following goals:
A. To improve the quality of life in the Township of Maplewood by helping
the arts to flourish;
B. To further the understanding of and involvement in arts and culture
by the citizens of the Township;
C. To establish and support arts programs that are artistically, financially
and operationally successful as well as organizations that are diverse
and accessible to all Maplewoodians;
D. To support a respected and valued community of Maplewood artists
encouraged to achieve their best and be broadly connected to community
life in ways that make full use of their creativity and talents;
E. To promote expanded public participation in and support for the arts;
F. To maintain a network of people, businesses, organizations, institutions
and communities working in partnership to advance the arts and the
arts' contributions to Maplewood's community life;
G. To create and foster high-quality arts education for all Maplewoodians;
H. To help to build a local economy whose community and economic development
strategies, plans and resource allocations at all jurisdictional levels
feature the arts and culture.

A. The Maplewood Arts Council shall consist of 11 members appointed
by the Maplewood Township Committee.
B. The term of all appointees shall be for three years.

The MAC shall meet at least once each year and shall elect from
among its members a Chairperson and other officers as it deems necessary
on an annual basis.
Through the Recreation Department the MAC shall undertake projects
that advance its mission. Such projects may be originated by the MAC,
the Recreation Department or the Township Committee.
No later than January 31 of each calendar year, the MAC shall
make an annual report to the Maplewood Township Committee on its activities
and progress towards its goals, as well as providing suggestions for
future activities.
The MAC shall endeavor to ensure full cooperation and coordination
of activities and plans with all other organizations within the Township
dedicated to the pursuit of artistic, cultural, dance, dramatic, historical,
musical, poetic and other activities of interest that may benefit
the residents of the Township.
