All buildings along streets or avenues in the
Borough of Montvale shall be numbered in accordance with the numbers
designated on the lots or plots as shown on the Borough Assessment
Map of the Borough of Montvale made by Hering & Westphal, Engineers,
January 1936, and on file with the Borough Clerk of Montvale in the
Borough Clerk's office or as on said assessment map as it may hereafter
be amended.
Every building on a plot along the streets or
avenues of the Borough of Montvale shall have a number displayed thereon
at least three inches in height. Said number shall be placed at the
entrance of each building.
The number or numbers applicable to said building
shall be ascertained by the owner, occupant, tenant or agent thereof,
from a map on file with the Borough Clerk in the Borough Clerk's office,
or from the person designated by the Council for that purpose.
Said number or numbers shall be ascertained
and placed upon the buildings as hereinbefore provided, not later
than 60 days after the adoption of this chapter.
In the event of the failure of the owner, occupant,
tenant or agent to ascertain and affix upon the buildings the number
applicable to said buildings, within 60 days after the adoption of
this chapter, it shall be lawful for the Mayor and Council of the
Borough of Montvale to have affixed to said buildings upon which no
number or numbers shall have been affixed the number or numbers applicable
to said buildings and to make a return of the cost of the same to
the Collector of the Borough, who shall charge the same to the owner
of the building and collect the same with the taxes that shall accrue
upon the plot or plots upon which the building or buildings are situated
and the said cost shall be a lien upon said land.
All ordinances or parts of ordinances inconsistent
with this chapter are hereby repealed, and this chapter shall take
effect after publication in the manner provided by law.
