Pursuant to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 40:81-13,
there is hereby created in the City of Clifton an Historical Commission,
the members of which shall serve the Municipal Council without compensation
in an advisory capacity in matters touching on or concerning the history
of the City of Clifton.

The Municipal Council may also, at any time
and from time to time, appoint such associate member or members to
the Commission as may be deemed appropriate, each of whom shall serve
for a term commencing on the date of his appointment and ending on
the 31st day of the third December next succeeding the date of his
appointment.
The Commission shall organize as soon as may
be following appointment of its members, and annually thereafter,
by election of a Chairman from among its members. Said Commission
may hold regular and special meetings and, subject to the provisions
of this chapter, may make and amend rules and regulations concerning
the conduct thereof.
The Commission shall:
A.
Discover and memorialize the history of the City of
Clifton.
B.
Obtain and disseminate on a City-wide basis information
pertaining to the history of the City of Clifton.
C.
Recommend to the Municipal Council the observance
and commemoration of events of historical significance to the City
of Clifton.
D.
Recommend to the Municipal Council the procurement
and preservation of artifacts, documents, photographs, memorabilia
and other physical objects that relate to the history of the City
of Clifton.
E.
Gather and present to the Municipal Council such facts,
information and statistics as may be of historical value to the City
of Clifton.
F.
Generally, to institute, foster and support such programs,
undertakings and projects as shall make the citizens of the City of
Clifton aware of its origin, development and historical significance
and shall enlist their active participation and support in a continuing
program designed to recognize and memorialize the history of the City.
G.
Be authorized to raise funds to offset its operational
costs. All expenditures shall first be approved by the Municipal Council
and all moneys so raised turned over to the City Treasurer.
