GENERAL REFERENCES
Boards, commissions and committees — See Ch. 9.
A Human Services Council, consisting of no more than nine members, shall be appointed by the Board of Selectmen within 30 days from this date. Four members shall be appointed for terms expiring October 31, 1977, and five members shall be appointed for terms expiring October 31, 1978. Thenceforth, all terms shall be three years. The Director of Health shall be a member ex officio, without vote.

A. 
The Board of Selectmen shall appoint an Acting Chairperson, who shall forthwith call an organizational meeting of the unit. Not later than 60 days from the date of appointment, the members of this unit shall elect a Chairperson, Vice Chairperson and Secretary.
B. 
Any vacancy in the membership of the unit shall be filled by the Board of Selectmen.
The Human Services Council shall serve as an advisory, consulting and coordinating body to the Selectmen, town boards and commissions, as well as the voluntary health care organizations in Guilford, including mental health and supportive services.
A. 
The Council shall assess needs and promote means of meeting them. It shall also evaluate requests and make recommendations to the Board of Selectmen for town support of health and health-related services.
B. 
The Council shall work in cooperation with state and regional health organizations wherever appropriate.
