The Mayor shall be the chief executive officer of the Township and shall have the power and duty to enforce the administration of the Charter and ordinances of the Township and all general laws applicable thereto.
The compensation of the Mayor shall be fixed by ordinance.[1]

The Mayor shall:
A. 
Have such powers of appointment and removal as are provided by law.
B. 
Have power to appoint, with the advice and consent of the Council, to all offices where no other provision is made for such appointment.
C. 
Assign or approve the assignment of space in public buildings and other public places for the temporary or permanent use of any department, body, officer, agency or instrumentality, and, through the Business Administrator, control the assignment, allocation and use of furniture, equipment or other public property in the Township government.
D. 
Assign and reassign, transfer and retransfer, either temporarily or permanently, any property or personnel from one function to another or from one administrative unit to another as the efficient management of the Township government may require.
E. 
Enforce the Charter and ordinances.
F. 
Supervise all departments and employees of the municipal government.
G. 
Require each department to make an annual and such other reports of its work as he may deem desirable.
H. 
From time to time make recommendations for action by the Council as he may deem in the public interest.
I. 
Report annually at the beginning of the year to the Council and the public on the work of the previous year and the condition and requirements of the municipal government for the current year.
J. 
Have such other functions, powers and duties as are provided by the Charter and Township of Bridgewater Code.
The Mayor may delegate to the head of any department any function, power or duty conferred upon the Mayor by ordinance and which is not required by statute to be performed or discharged personally by the Mayor. A copy of such delegation shall be in writing and filed with the Clerk.
As provided by the Charter, the Mayor shall designate either the Business Administrator, a Director or the Township Clerk to act as Mayor whenever the Mayor shall be prevented by absence from the Township, disability or other cause from attending to the duties of the office. During such time, the person so designated by the Mayor shall possess all the rights, powers and duties of Mayor. The Council shall be notified of such change in writing. Whenever the Mayor shall have been unable to attend to the duties of his office for a period of 60 consecutive days for any of the above-stated reasons, an Acting Mayor shall be appointed by a majority of all Council members. In the event of a vacancy in the office of the elected Mayor, the vacancy shall be filled pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:69A-54.
