The Mayor shall be the chief executive officer
of the Township and shall have the power and duty to enforce the administration
of the Charter and ordinances of the Township and all general laws
applicable thereto.
The compensation of the Mayor shall be fixed
by ordinance.
The Mayor may delegate to the head of any department
any function, power or duty conferred upon the Mayor by ordinance
and which is not required by statute to be performed or discharged
personally by the Mayor. A copy of such delegation shall be in writing
and filed with the Clerk.
As provided by the Charter, the Mayor shall
designate either the Business Administrator, a Director or the Township
Clerk to act as Mayor whenever the Mayor shall be prevented by absence
from the Township, disability or other cause from attending to the
duties of the office. During such time, the person so designated by
the Mayor shall possess all the rights, powers and duties of Mayor.
The Council shall be notified of such change in writing. Whenever
the Mayor shall have been unable to attend to the duties of his office
for a period of 60 consecutive days for any of the above-stated reasons,
an Acting Mayor shall be appointed by a majority of all Council members.
In the event of a vacancy in the office of the elected Mayor, the
vacancy shall be filled pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:69A-54.
