The Select Board shall name all streets and
avenues in the Town, but no present name of any street or avenue shall
be given to any other street or avenue.
Street numbers shall be attached to each dwelling,
business, industrial and other buildings in the Town of Sterling.
The number shall be made of permanent, weatherproof
materials in contrasting color, shall be at least three inches in
height, and shall be clearly visible from the street or roadway upon
which the structure fronts.
Any structure that is not visible from the street
or roadway shall have the assigned number posted on a suitable support
at the entrance to the driveway that services such structure.
The numbers posted shall be those assigned to
each structure by the Fire Department, and filed in the office of
the Town Clerk. The Fire Department shall advise the owners of property
in writing of the assigned or reassigned number at the property's
tax address.
It shall be the responsibility of each property
owner in the Town to obtain and maintain the assigned street number
and to display same within 90 days of the assignment of said street
number.
This bylaw shall be enforced by either the Police
Department or the Fire Department.
Failure to comply with this bylaw shall subject
property owners to a fine of not more than $20 for each offense.
