Snowmobiles, duly registered or exempt therefrom, by the Commissioner of Conservation of New York, shall be permitted to operate upon and use all those certain streets in this Village, as may be hereafter set forth under §
232-2 hereof; and, permission hereunder granted shall be subject to the rules, regulations, requirements and conditions as provided herein.

All streets and roadways of the Village of Saranac Lake are hereby designated as open to the use permitted under §
232-1 hereof, except as follows:
A. Main Street from River Street to approximately 200
feet west of Church Street.
C. Broadway from Main Street to Ampersand Avenue.
D. Bloomingdale Avenue from Broadway to Church Street.
G. Woodruff Street from Broadway to Church Street.
No person under the age of 16 years shall operate
a snowmobile on any of the streets or roadways within the Village
of Saranac Lake.
No person shall operate a snowmobile on any
of the streets or roadways between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 7:00
a.m., Eastern Standard Time, except on Fridays and Saturdays. The
prohibited hours shall be from 12:00 midnight to 7:00 a.m. on Fridays
and Saturdays.
All snowmobiles operating within the Village
of Saranac Lake shall be equipped with a windscreen unless the operator
thereof wears goggles or a face shield at all times during such operation.
Snowmobiles shall be operated on and over the
streets and roadways of the Village of Saranac Lake in accordance
with the regulations, requirements and conditions hereafter promulgated
and set forth, deemed by this Village to be reasonable rules of operation
within this Village, which rules are promulgated in order to promote
conservation of the local environment, the safety of the persons and
property of the public within this Village, and to give effect to
the legislative purpose of Article 8 of the Conservation Law of the
State of New York within the jurisdictional limits of this municipality,
those regulations, requirements and conditions being as follows:
A. No person shall operate a snowmobile on any sidewalk
or right-of-way reserved only for pedestrian traffic, except to cross
the same at approximate right angles to reach property upon which
operation of snowmobiles is lawful.
B. A person operating a snowmobile shall ride only upon
the permanent and regular seat attached thereto. Such operator shall
not carry any other person nor shall any other person ride on a snowmobile
unless such snowmobile is designed to carry more than one person,
in which event a passenger may ride upon the permanent and regular
seat if designed for two persons.
C. Every operator of a snowmobile shall obey all traffic
signs and signals within the Village.
Every law enforcement officer of the State of
New York, the County of Franklin, and Village of Saranac Lake shall
enforce the provisions of this chapter.
Any person who shall violate any of the terms
and provisions of this chapter shall be guilty of a violation and
shall be punished by a fine of not less than $5 and not more than
$100.
The provisions hereof are to be considered as
separable and separate and are not intended to conflict with the provisions
of Article 8 of the New York State Conservation Law; and if any provisions shall be in conflict with Article
8 of the Conservation Law of New York, or fail to be a valid regulation
for any reason, then the remaining provisions shall have the same
force and effect as though said conflict or failure had not occurred.
