Pools used for swimming or bathing by human beings shall be
in conformity with the requirements of this article; provided, however,
these regulations shall not be applicable to any such pool less than
24 inches deep, except when such pool is permanently equipped with
a water recirculating system.
For the purpose of this article, the terms used herein are defined
as follows:
PRIVATE, PORTABLE SWIMMING POOL
Any pool which is used or intended to be used by the family
of the householder and his private guests and which is erected without
requiring a foundation on the ground and with materials easily joined,
coupled or assembled and capable of being dismantled and returned
to their original condition.
PRIVATE, PERMANENT SWIMMING POOL
Any pool which is used or intended to be used by the family
of the householder and his private guests and which is not a private,
portable swimming pool.
All swimming pools shall not encroach on any front or side yard
required by the Basic Building Code of the State of Connecticut, Abridged
Basic Building Code of the State of Connecticut, the Building Code
and building and zoning regulations of the City of Norwalk. No wall of any such swimming pool shall be located less
than six feet from any rear or side property line nor 10 feet from
any street property line except as otherwise may be provided by the
City of Norwalk.
Swimming pool design, construction, water treatment, drainage,
electrical appurtenances and other safety considerations not specifically
set forth herein shall comply with all state, federal and local codes
and regulations except as otherwise stated herein.
This ordinance shall take effect after due compliance with the
provisions of § 1-193 of the Charter of the City of Norwalk.
