The purpose of this chapter is to regulate the nature and extent
of the uses of land and of buildings and structures thereon for the
purposes set forth in the Municipal Land Use Law (N.J.S.A. 40:55D
et seq.) and to exercise the power to zone and regulate land development
granted to municipalities of the State of New Jersey.
From and after the effective date of this chapter the use of
all land and every building or portion of a building erected, altered
with respect to height and area, added to, or relocated, and every
use within a building or use accessory thereto, in the Township of
Lakewood, shall be in conformity with the provisions of this chapter.
In interpreting and applying the provisions of this chapter,
they shall be held to be the minimum requirements for the promotion
of the public health, safety, comfort, convenience and general welfare.
Where the provisions of this chapter impose greater restrictions than
those of any statute, other ordinance, or regulation, the provisions
of this chapter shall be controlling.
Where the provisions of any statute, other ordinance or regulation
impose greater restrictions than this chapter, the provisions of such
statute, other ordinance or regulation shall be controlling.
This chapter shall be known and may be cited as "The Lakewood
Township Unified Development Ordinance of 2005."
