All full-time employees except non-union employees of the Town of Secaucus shall be paid, in addition to their basic salaries, longevity pay depending upon years of service. Such longevity pay shall be based upon a percentage of the said employees' regular compensation or salary as fixed from time to time, in accordance with the appropriate schedule set forth below and as determined by their appropriate labor agreement. Employees not covered by any labor agreement also shall be paid in accordance with the following schedule:

The lengths of service set forth in the schedule in § 32-1 hereof must be continuous and uninterrupted full-time employment, except that leaves of absence granted by the governing body and interruptions in employment occasioned by military service shall not be regarded as breaks in the continuity of service. The period of leaves of absence granted by the governing body and interruptions occasioned by military service shall be included in an employee's length of service for purposes of computing longevity pay. If there is an interruption in an employee's service, other than during a leave of absence granted by the governing body and during absence in military service, then such employee shall lose all longevity for purposes of longevity pay and, upon the re-employment of such employees by the Town of Secaucus, length of service shall be computed from the day of such reemployment without credit for earlier periods of employment.
Longevity for purposes of longevity pay may be acquired in any full-time employment by the Town of Secaucus, and the entire period of such service need not be in the same job or position.
Any employee whose length of service prior to July 1 in any year shall, on the basis of the schedule in § 32-1 hereof, entitle him to longevity pay, or to an increase in longevity pay, shall receive such longevity pay, or increase in longevity pay, as of, retroactive to and commencing from, January 1 of that year. Any employee whose length of service shall not entitle him to longevity pay or to an increase in longevity pay until July 1 or later in any year, shall receive such longevity pay, or increase in longevity pay, as of and commencing from January 1 in the following year.
Longevity pay shall be paid together with and at the same intervals as regular compensation or salary.
This Article shall apply only to those employees whose salaries are fixed by the governing body of the Town of Secaucus.
[Added 8-24-93 by Ord. No. 93-49]
Notwithstanding any other provision of this chapter, particularly Article II, Longevity Pay, no non-union employee of the Town of Secaucus hired after July 1, 1993 shall be entitled to receive any longevity pay.
[Added 7-26-94 by Ord. No. 94-22]
Notwithstanding any other provision of this chapter to the contrary, particularly Article II, Longevity Pay, no non-union employee of the Town of Secaucus shall receive or be entitled to receive longevity pay for 1994 or thereafter.
