S-1368 requires business owners and rental unit owners to maintain
certain liability insurance policies; and
A governing body of a municipality, by ordinance, may elect
not to enforce the registration requirements established pursuant
to subsection a. of the Act, in which case the Division of Local Government
Services shall enforce the provisions of this Act and shall collect,
through a summary proceeding pursuant to the “Penalty Enforcement
Law of 1999,” P.L. 199, c. 274 (N.J.S.A. 2A:58-10 et seq.) a
fine of not less than $500 but no more than $5,000 against an owner
who failed to comply with the provisions of this act.
The Governing Body of the Borough of North Haledon is electing
not to enforce the registration requirements and elects to allow the
Division of Local Government Services to enforce the provisions of
this Act.
