When used in this chapter, the following words
shall have the following meanings:
DANGEROUS WEAPON
Any device, object or article designed or utilized for the
purpose of bodily assault or defense.
FIREARM
Any device or weapon from which a dangerous projectile may
be propelled by using explosives, gas or air as a means of propulsion,
except any smooth bore rifle or handgun designed and manufactured
exclusively for propelling BB's not exceeding .177 caliber by
means of spring, gas or air, except for any slingshot or bow and arrow.
The definition of "firearm" shall include but not be limited to a
rifle, shotgun or pistol.
It shall be unlawful for any person, except
a police officer in the performance of his or her duty, to discharge
any firearm or dangerous weapon within the Township except in the
lawful defense of person or property, or except at a duly established
range for that purpose, the operation of which has been approved by
the Township, or except at such other places and under such other
circumstances otherwise approved by the Township's Police Department.
The exceptions herein contained shall not include the discharge of
firearms or dangerous weapons for the purpose of hunting within the
Township, such act being hereby prohibited by this section.
It shall be unlawful for any person, except
a police or peace officer, to transport in any motor vehicle any loaded
or unloaded firearm or dangerous weapon within the Township except
in accordance with and in the manner provided by law. The exceptions
herein contained or contained within the general statutes of the State
of Michigan shall not permit or include the transporting of firearms
or dangerous weapons for the purpose of hunting within the Township,
such act being hereby prohibited by this section.

Penalties for violation of this chapter shall be punishable as provided in Chapter
1, General Provisions, §
1-3. The provisions of Chapter
1, Article
II, Municipal Civil Infractions, also apply to violations of this chapter.
