The Maywood Fire Police, as heretofore established, is hereby continued.
A. 
The Fire Police shall consist of such number of persons and be governed by such rules as the Mayor and Council shall adopt.
B. 
As a condition for membership and continued membership in the Fire Police, each member shall be a resident of the Borough of Maywood or a nonresident of the Borough of Maywood who is employed in the Borough of Maywood provided that, during such period of time as such person is so employed, such person has a letter of permission from such person's employer to leave such employment for the purpose of making calls. A person may also qualify as a nonresident member if he or she is an active member in good standing who moves out of the Borough of Maywood to a bordering municipality and who maintains his or her primary residence within one driving mile of the border of the Borough of Maywood.
C. 
A person may qualify as a nonresident member if he or she resides within a contiguous municipality that does not have its own volunteer Fire Police Organization and who maintains his or her primary residence within one driving mile of the border of the Borough of Maywood.

The duties of the Fire Police shall be to assist the Fire Department in the performance of its duty in the following manner:
A. 
By establishing fire lines and allowing no one to pass the fire limits except those entitled to do so.
B. 
By preventing interference with the work of the fire fighters.
