Pursuant to § 12-103(b) of the Tax-Property
Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland, the recordation tax upon
every instrument of writing conveying title to real or personal property
or creating liens or encumbrances upon real or personal property offered
for record and recorded in the office of the Clerk for the Circuit
Court for Dorchester County after June 30, 2003, shall be as follows:
A. In the case of instruments conveying title to property,
the tax shall be at the rate of $5 for each $500 or fractional part
thereof of the actual consideration paid or to be paid.
B. In the case of instruments securing a debt, the tax
shall be at the rate of $5 for each $500 of the principal amount of
the debt secured.
Those instruments exempt from the tax by § 12-108
of the Tax-Property Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland shall
also be exempt from the tax imposed by this article.
