[Adopted 5-6-2002 by Ord. No. 02-5 (Ch. 23, Art. II, of the 1985 Code)]
There is hereby created and established a Junior Firefighters' Auxiliary for the Borough of Woodcliff Lake, and the following rules and regulations be and the same hereby are adopted by the Mayor and Council to govern the activities of said auxiliary:
A. 
The Junior Firefighters' Auxiliary of Woodcliff Lake shall consist of no more than 40 members who are not less than 14 or more than 21 years of age.
B. 
The qualifications for membership in said auxiliary shall be as follows:
(1) 
Each member shall be a resident of Woodcliff Lake.
(2) 
Each member shall be examined by a physician, who shall certify that the member is in good health.
(3) 
Each member shall have written permission from his parents or guardian, and said written permission shall be in a form approved by the Volunteer Fire Department and Borough Attorney and acknowledged in the manner required by law for deeds to real estate.
C. 
The training of members of the Junior Firefighters' Auxiliary shall be the responsibility of the Fire Chief, who shall provide an educational program in firematics designed to train said members toward their eventual membership in the Volunteer Fire Department.
D. 
No junior firefighter shall perform duties which will expose him or her to the same degree of hazard as a regular member of a volunteer fire department. Activities of junior firefighters under 16 years of age shall be limited to:
(1) 
Attending meetings of the Junior Firefighters' Auxiliary;
(2) 
Receiving instruction;
(3) 
Participating in training that does not involve fire, smoke, toxic or noxious gas, or hazardous materials or substances; and
(4) 
Observing fire-fighting activities while under supervision.
E. 
Members of the Junior Firefighters' Auxiliary shall be provided with the same insurance coverage and in the same amounts provided for the regular volunteer firefighters of the municipality or fire districts pursuant to law.
F. 
The Fire Chief may designate advisors and training officers to assist him in the training of members of the Junior Firefighters' Auxiliary.
G. 
The Fire Chief shall file reports to the Mayor and Council periodically concerning the membership, training and status of the Junior Firefighters' Auxiliary.
