The Select Board shall exercise a general supervision over all matters affecting the interest or welfare of the Town, not otherwise provided for.
The Select Board members may appear either personally or by counsel before any committee of the Legislature or board or commission to protect the interests of the Town, but are not authorized by the bylaws to commit the Town to any course of action.
The Select Board shall have full authority, as agents of the Town, to employ counsel to institute and prosecute suits in the name of the Town, to appear for and defend suits brought against it, unless otherwise specifically ordered by vote of the Town, or otherwise provided by the laws of the commonwealth.
The Select Board may settle any claim or suit against the Town which in their opinion, acting upon the advice of counsel, cannot be successfully defended.
The Select Board is authorized to settle or defend any claims or suits that may be brought against the Town or bring suit against any parties who may be indebted to the Town.
