[Ord. No. 995 §601, 5-19-1987]
A. The driver
of a vehicle intending to turn at an intersection or driveway shall
do so as provided in this Section, unless a different method of turning
is directed by buttons, markers, signals, signs or other devices at
intersections, in which event turns shall be made in accordance with
the direction of such markers, buttons, signals, signs or other devices.
1. Right turns. Both the approach for a right turn and execution
of a right turn shall be made as close as practicable to the right-hand
curb or edge of the roadway.
2. Left turns on two-way roadways. At any intersection where
traffic is permitted to move in both directions on each roadway entering
the intersection, an approach for a left turn shall be made in that
portion of the right half of the roadway nearest the center line thereof
and by passing to the right of such center line where it enters the
intersection. After entering the intersection the left turn shall
be made so as to leave the intersection to the right of the center
line of the roadway being entered. Whenever practicable, the left
turn shall be made in that portion of the intersection to the left
of the center of the intersection.
3. Left turns on other than two-way roadways. At any intersection
where traffic is restricted to one (1) direction on one (1) or more
of the roadways, the driver of a vehicle intending to turn left at
any such intersection shall approach the intersection in the extreme
left-hand lane lawfully available to the traffic moving in the direction
of the travel of such vehicle, and after entering the intersection
the left turn shall be made so as to leave the intersection, as nearly
as practicable, in the left hand lane lawfully available to the traffic
moving in such direction upon the roadway being entered.
[Ord. No. 995 §602, 5-19-1987]
A. A driver
making a right turn shall yield the right-of-way to other vehicles
already within said intersection or so close thereto as to constitute
an immediate hazard, and to any pedestrian in the crosswalk or crossing
at the intersection. Right turns are permitted on red lights unless
otherwise posted after coming to a complete stop and yielding the
right-of-way.
B. A driver
making a left turn shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle approaching
from the opposite direction which is within the intersection or so
close thereto as to constitute an immediate hazard, and to any pedestrian
in the crosswalk or crossing at the intersection.
[Ord. No. 995 §603, 5-19-1987]
A. No person
shall turn or stop any vehicle when other traffic is present either
in front, in back or laterally, and so close as to constitute a hazard,
unless he shall have continuously during at least the last one hundred
(100) feet traveled by his said vehicle given an appropriate and commonly
approved hand, mechanical or electrical signal of such intention.
Nothing herein shall prevent the making of an emergency stop or turn
in order to attempt to avoid a collision where there is not sufficient
time to give such signal. If such turn is to be made from a stopped
position then such signal must be given prior to proceeding for such
duration as to be a warning to other traffic.
B. All signals
herein required given by hand and arm shall be given from the left
side of the vehicle in the following manner, and such signal shall
indicate as follows:
1. Left turn. Hand and arm extended horizontally.
2. Right turn. Hand and arm extended upward.
3. Stop or decrease in speed. Hand and arm extended downward.
[Ord. No. 995 §604, 5-19-1987]
Whenever authorized signs are erected indicating that no right
or left or U-turn is permitted, no driver of a vehicle shall disobey
the directions of any such signs.
[Ord. No. 995 §605, 5-19-1987]
The driver of any vehicle shall not turn such vehicle so as
to proceed in the opposite direction unless such movement can be made
in safety and without interfering with other traffic.
