No person or persons shall fire, set off or discharge within the limits of the Borough of North Caldwell any revolver, pistol, gun, rifle, shotgun, air rifle, compressed air gun or firearms of any description using cartridges, gunpowder or other explosive substances for ammunition; provided that nothing herein contained shall be construed to extend to law enforcement officers, to military maneuvers or to target practice upon a firing range approved by the Chief of Police, or to competition in and upon a firing range approved by the Chief of Police, or to the holders of a special license or permit under a state law, authorizing the destruction of vermin or animals; and provided further, that nothing herein contained shall be construed to prevent an owner or owners occupying land in excess of five acres under one ownership, members of his or their families or their employees from hunting or shooting and destroying at any time and in any manner crows, woodchuck, fox and vermin on that land and as otherwise provided by law.

Any person or persons violating any of the provisions of this chapter shall, upon conviction thereof, be liable to a penalty as stated in Chapter 1, Article II General Penalty, Section 1-5 et seq. for each offense, and upon default in payment shall be subject to imprisonment in the County Jail for a period not to exceed 90 days, in the discretion of the Judge.
