This article shall be known and may be cited as "Local Law No. 2, 2023, amending the local laws of the Town of Rye by adding Chapter 54B entitled 'Town Clerk,'" which authorizes the Town Clerk to appoint not more than three Deputy Town Clerks. This article is hereby adopted pursuant to the provisions of § 10 of the NYS Municipal Home Rule Law and § 10 of the NYS Statute of Local Governments. It is the intent of the Town Council, pursuant to § 10 of the NYS Municipal Home Rule Law, to supersede the provisions of § 30, Subdivision 10, of the New York State Town Law relating to the number of Deputy Town Clerk appointments the Town Clerk is permitted to make.
A. 
The local laws of the Town of Rye are hereby amended to establish the number of Deputy Town Clerks that may be appointed by the Town Clerk.
B. 
The Town Clerk of the Town of Rye may appoint up to three Deputy Town Clerks to serve at the same time. The position of Deputy Town Clerk shall be funded pursuant to the adoption of the Town budget, subject to the amendment via resolution, by the Town Council. The Town Clerk shall have no authority regarding the salary determination for the appointed Deputy Clerks.
