The Mayor shall appoint an Assistant to the Collector of Taxes, and such appointment shall be confirmed by a majority of the Council.
It shall be the duty of the Assistant Tax Collector to aid the Collector of Taxes in the performance of his duties as set forth in the charter[1] and special act concerning the Tax Collector of the city, and to perform the duties of the Collector, should the Collector be absent from the city, sick or otherwise unable to perform such duties. The term of office of the Assistant Collector of Taxes shall run for as long as he performs his duties properly.
