The membership of the Veterans Commission shall be composed of:
A. 
Three (3) members appointed annually by the Township Committee, said members to be qualified as follows:
(1) 
Two (2) members shall be retired members of the Armed Forces of the United States who are veterans of any war and/or hostilities on behalf of the Armed Forces of the United States and who were separated from same under honorable conditions.
(2) 
One (1) member shall be a veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States, not a veteran of any war, who was separated from the Armed Forces of the United States under honorable conditions.
B. 
The commanders of all veterans organizations in the Township of Barnegat chartered by the Congress of the United States.
C. 
The presidents of the ladies auxiliaries of all veterans organizations in the Township of Barnegat chartered by the Congress of the United States.
D. 
All residents of the Township of Barnegat who are holders of any of the following shall be honorary members:
(1) 
The Medal of Honor.
(2) 
The Navy Cross.
(3) 
The Air Force Cross.
(4) 
The Distinguished Service Cross.
The objectives of the Veterans Commission of the Township of Barnegat shall include but not be limited to:
A. 
Recommendation to the Township Committee of such measures as to promote the welfare of veterans residing in the Township of Barnegat.
B. 
Holding of public hearings to accept suggestions and the preparation and review of prospective recommendations to the Township Committee.
C. 
Recommendation and coordination of public patriotic celebrations.
D. 
Cooperation with county, state and federal veterans agencies so as to provide better service to veterans who are residents of the Township of Barnegat.
This ordinance shall take effect upon final adoption and publication as provided by law.
