[HISTORY: Adopted by the City Council of the City of Cape May by Ord. No. 729 (Sec. 3-6 of the 1997 Revised General Ordinances). Amendments noted where applicable.]
[Amended by Ord. No. 1156-98]
It has been determined that the use of skateboards in the sidewalks, promenades, malls and ways and in public parks, public parking lots and other public places within the City created a severe public safety problem.
As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
SKATEBOARD
A platform or board with roller skate wheels or other similar wheels affixed to the underside, designed to be ridden by a person or persons, which has no steering device or mechanism to steer or control the direction thereof while being used or ridden, even though the direction may be controlled to some degree by shifting the feet or weight of the rider during such use.
[Amended by Ord. No. 1156-98]
No person shall use, operate or ride upon any skateboard on any sidewalks, promenades, malls and ways or in public parks, public parking lots and other public places within the City. The City Council may, however, by resolution, designate approved skateboard areas at such locations within the City.
[Amended 6-6-2017 by Ord. No. 318-2017]
Anyone found to be in violation of this chapter shall be subject to the penalties set forth in Chapter 1, Article III of the Municipal Code.
