To show appreciation to policemen who have brought honor and credit to Carteret and to themselves by performing in an exemplary manner above and beyond the ordinary call of duty by heroism, bravery, unusually difficult or important arrests or in other ways, a Meritorious Policemen Commendation Program is hereby created.
The system will be administered by a committee consisting of the Mayor, the Council President, the Chairman of the Police Committee of the Borough Council, the Police Chief and another Councilman named by the Mayor. This committee will vote on the awarding of all citations. Such citations might be suggested by anyone, but must be in writing with a short explanation of why the officer suggested is being recommended for consideration for the Meritorious Policeman Award.
Each nominee favorably passed by the committee will be forwarded to the Borough Council for final approval or rejection.
Each policeman being meritoriously cited will receive a bonus of one hundred dollars ($100.) and a merit award police badge holder and an appropriate symbol for display on his uniform. He will also receive a letter of commendation and a certificate of outstanding merit suitable for framing.
