Designation of parking stalls for handicapped
drivers in each of the parking lots listed in Schedule A below is hereby made in accordance with N.J.S.A. 40:48-2.46.
The owners of premises required to provide handicapped parking spaces shall also be required to install depressed curbing and/or ramps for parking lots to walkways leading to the principal entrance or entrances of the building. The location of the depressed curbing and/or ramps to be provided shall be shown on the sketch plan submittal required in §
254-42 of this article. The installation of ramps and depressed curbing shall be provided within the specified time for the installation of the required handicapped parking spaces as indicated in §
254-43A of this article. Failure to comply with this section shall constitute a violation for which an offender shall be subject to penalties in accordance with §
254-43B of this article.
The provisions of this article shall be enforced
by the Police Department of the Borough of Carteret.
All signing, pavement markings, depressed curbing and/or ramps shall be maintained in good and proper condition, including but not limited to the condition of required markings and signs, which should remain distinctly visible at all times. Any owner of premises required to provide handicapped parking stalls who shall fail to maintain such stalls in proper condition shall be subject to penalties in accordance with §
254-43B of this article.

Every request for a designated handicapped parking
stall within the Borough shall require an application fee not to exceed
$250, as may be permitted by law, with said amount to be set by resolution
of the governing body. The application fee shall be for the costs
of processing the application, engineering and/or police department
review and the installation of any signage and pavement marking of
any approved handicapped parking stall.

A. It shall
be a violation of this Code to fail to properly display, or otherwise
improperly display, a handicapped parking permit or placard.
B. Any violation of this section shall be subject to the penalty provisions of §
1-17 of this Code.
