All other provisions of this Chapter
notwithstanding, in lieu of the appointment of police and a Chief
of Police, the Board of Aldermen may contract with the Sheriff of
Audrain County, Missouri, to fulfill the duties and responsibilities
of the Chief of Police and Police Officers. Acting under contact,
the Sheriff and his or her deputies shall have the same authority
as a City Police Officer and shall enforce the ordinances of the City
and enjoy all of the powers and duties of appointed police. During
the time such a contract is in effect, the appointive office of Chief
of Police will be vacant. In the event any such contract is terminated,
the City Administrator shall recommend to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen
some suitable person to serve as Chief of Police to resume the duties
and responsibilities required by ordinance at the time of termination
of any such contract.
