There is hereby created the "North Wildwood Historical Commission."
The Commission shall consist of seven members. The members of the Commission shall be appointed by the Mayor, with the advice and consent of Council, and shall serve without compensation.
A. 
The City Historian shall be a permanent member of the Commission and shall serve as its Chairperson.
B. 
One member of the Commission shall be a member of Council, whose term on the Commission shall be concurrent with his/her Council term.
C. 
The other five members shall serve for terms of three years, except that at the time of the initial appointments to the Commission, the appointments shall be staggered into three-, two-, and one-year terms so that in each subsequent year the Mayor shall make two appointments to the Commission.
D. 
The members of the Commission shall choose a Vice Chairperson and Secretary from among its members.
E. 
The Commission may establish such committees of its members as will assist it in carrying out its purposes.
F. 
The Mayor, with the advice and consent of Council, may remove any member with or without cause.
G. 
Vacancies shall be filled for the unexpired term.
H. 
The Commission shall serve solely at the pleasure of the Mayor and Council and may, therefore, be dissolved at any time by a majority vote of Council.
The Commission shall hold regularly scheduled meetings on a monthly basis and at any other time that the Commission may deem necessary. A majority of the members of the Commission shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business. The Secretary shall keep minutes of the Commission's proceedings (including the vote of each member on each item of business) and provide the Mayor and Council annually with a report of its activities.
The Commission is authorized, within the limits of such funds as may be appropriated or otherwise available to it, to plan, organize and execute programs for:
A. 
The production and publication of educational materials relating to the history of North Wildwood;
B. 
Conferences, lectures, seminars and similar activities relating to the history of North Wildwood;
C. 
The development and maintenance of libraries, museums, exhibits and displays of historical items in the Hereford Inlet Lighthouse;
D. 
The preservation of historical items or materials that are in the possession of, or may come into the possession of, or are under the care of, the City of North Wildwood;
E. 
Any other project, event or study that is intended to advance the public interest and awareness of the history of North Wildwood.
A. 
The Commission may receive gifts of money, property and personal services for the carrying out of its purposes. The Commission may also conduct such fundraising activities as may be deemed necessary.
B. 
In carrying out its purposes, the Commission may employ such assistants or personnel, and incur such expenses, as it may deem necessary, within the limits of such funds as may be appropriated or otherwise available.
