Editor's Note: This ordinance also provided for the salary of the Computer Operator, which shall be set forth in the current Salary Ordinance of the city.
There shall be created and established the position of Computer Operator in the City of Orange Township, who, under direct supervision, monitors, controls and operates an electronic computer and does related work as required.
The typical tasks and duties of the Computer Operator shall be as follows: monitors and controls an electronic computer by operating the central console; manipulates control switches on control panels, storage devices and peripheral equipment in accordance with detailed programmer instructions or operating manuals; readies equipment for production and operation by loading programs, adjusting print control settings on printers, etc.; identifies causes of computer malfunctioning and confers with a supervisor for necessary corrective action; determines correct procedure when program stoppage occurs and attempts to ensure completion of program operation according to directions or operations manual; maintains operating records such as machine performance, production reports, data processing supplies and inventories and disc/tape library records; operates related auxiliary equipment directly associated with the computer; and advises programmers of the nature of operating malfunctions and corrective action taken.
The minimum qualification of the person appointed Computer Operator pursuant to the provisions of this Article shall be as follows: ability to read, write, speak and understand English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position; one (1) year of experience in the operation of an IBM System 36 for a municipality; some knowledge of the basic operation of data processing equipment used by the local jurisdiction and of office routines and clerical procedures; ability to analyze data and to reason logically and to utilize accepted data processing procedures, methods and techniques; and good health and freedom from disabling physical and mental defects which would impair the proper performance of the required duties or which might endanger the health and safety of oneself or others.

There shall be created and established the position of Senior Computer Operator in the City of Orange Township, who, under general supervision, monitors, controls and operates an electronic computer and does related work as required.
The typical tasks and duties of the Senior Computer Operator shall be as follows: monitors and controls an electronic computer by operating the central console; coordinates activities of the section with other sections in the overall processing department; may act as shift supervisor; loads peripheral equipment with forms and tape files; determines and takes corrective action when program stoppage occurs, according to directions or operations manual; verifies that all necessary files and data have been submitted to the computer room before the beginning of a job; verifies that reports and other outputs are complete; keeps accurate records of time and equipment utilization; and advises the department head of the nature of an operating malfunction and of corrective action taken.
The minimum qualifications of the person appointed Senior Computer Operator pursuant to the provisions of this Article shall be as follows: twenty-four (24) months of experience in the operation of an IBM System 36 for a municipality (satisfactory completion of a course of study in electronic data processing at a recognized college or university or accredited school of programming may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience); wide knowledge of modern methods and procedures and of digital computer equipment capabilities and electronic computer programming procedures and techniques and of the factors involved in the analysis, planning and design of data processing; ability to read, write, speak, understand or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position; and ability to analyze data, to reason logically and to draw sound conclusion in recommending courses of action, to review and comprehend agency programs, processes and methods, to utilize accepted data processing procedures, methods and techniques, to work harmoniously with staff members and others and to prepare clear, concise and accurate reports.
