There shall be created and established the position of Supervisor,
Streets, in the Department of Public Works, City of Orange Township,
New Jersey, who, under direction, supervises and works with a group
of employees engaged in the construction, maintenance and repair of
streets and does related work as required.
The typical tasks and duties of the Supervisor, Streets, Public
Works, shall be as follows: directs subordinates in sweeping the streets
and shoveling the accumulations into containers or onto trucks, loading
and unloading and applying street repair materials where needed and
repairing curbs and cleaning water catch basins; helps prepare work
schedules to accomplish required tasks; gives suitable work assignments
and instructions, needed advice and assistance and inspects and checks
the work completed and sees that proper procedures are followed, that
reasonable standards of workmanship and output are maintained and
that desired objectives are achieved; keeps routine records of attendance,
time spent and work completed; and obtains and supervises the storing,
safeguarding and use of needed equipment, materials, tools and supplies.
The minimum qualifications of the person appointed Supervisor,
Streets, in the Department of Public Works, pursuant to the provision
of this chapter shall be as follows: three (3) years of experience
in the construction, maintenance and repair of streets; appointee
will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey;
wide knowledge of the process used in cleaning, maintaining and repairing
streets; ability to read, write, speak, understand or communicate
in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position; ability
to direct subordinates in the effective procedures used in cleaning
and repairing streets, provide them with needed advice and assistance
when difficult and unusual problems arise and check their work to
see that proper procedures are followed, that reasonable standards
of workmanship and output are maintained and that desired objectives
are achieved; ability to prepare a work schedule and develop effective
work methods; ability to obtain, store, safeguard and use needed equipment,
materials and supplies and ability to keep records of attendance,
time spent and work completed and supplies used.
