There shall be created and established the position of Deputy
Tax Assessor in the office of the Tax Assessor, City of Orange Township,
New Jersey, who assists in the administration of the Tax Assessor's
office and performs tasks related to the assessment of real property
pursuant to Title 54 of the New Jersey Statutes.
Responsibilities and duties of the Deputy Tax Assessor shall
be as follows. The Deputy Tax Assessor:
A. Acts in the place of the Tax Assessor in his/her absence.
B. Answers inquiries and gives detailed tax assessment information.
C. Supervises the office and performs varied clerical tasks and prepares
suitable reports.
The minimum qualifications of the person appointed Deputy Tax
Assessor pursuant to the provisions of this Article shall be as follows:
A. Possession of a tax assessor's certificate issued by the State
of New Jersey.
B. One (1) year's experience in the day-to-day operations of the
Tax Assessor's office.
C. The ability to read, write, speak, understand or communicate in English
sufficiently to perform the duties of such position.
D. The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in accepted
written formats.
E. The ability to exercise independent sound judgment.
F. Wide knowledge of the laws, rules and regulations dealing with real
estate taxes in the municipality and of the effective methods used
in dealing with persons of varied education experience, social and
economic backgrounds.
G. The ability to have repeated personal and telephone contacts with
taxpayers without loss of courtesy, patience or equanimity, to take
firm and correct stands when differences arise and to perform varied
clerical tasks.
H. The ability to give suitable assignments and instruction to assigned
employees and to establish and maintain needed records and files.
This position shall be in the "Unclassified Service" pursuant
to N.J.S.A. 54:5-4.
