GENERAL REFERENCES
Administration of government — See Ch. 4.
There shall be a Historical Committee in the Borough consisting of seven members who shall be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Borough Council. Each member shall serve without compensation.
A. 
The Historical Committee shall include one member of the governing body, including the Mayor. Up to two more members of the Committee may be officers or employees of the Borough, including one additional member of the governing body.
B. 
The members of the Historical Committee shall each serve for a term of four years, except that the terms of the members first appointed to the Committee shall be as follows:
(1) 
One for a term of one year;
(2) 
Two for a term of two years;
(3) 
Two for a term of three years;
(4) 
Two for a term of four years.
C. 
A member of the Historical Committee who is also a member of the governing body shall serve for a term of one year.
The Historical Committee shall have the following duties and functions:
A. 
Collect and maintain documents, artifacts and other items of historical significance.
B. 
Promote an appreciation for the history of the Borough for the education, pleasure and welfare of the residents.
C. 
Foster the historic heritage of the Borough by encouraging the preservation of resources within the Borough which reflect elements of its cultural, social, economic and architectural history.
D. 
Attempt to compile a photographic history of the Borough.
E. 
Seek grants and outside funding to enhance history-related activities and programs within the Borough.
F. 
Carry out such other advisory, educational and informational functions as will promote historic preservation in the Borough.
Four members shall constitute a quorum for the conduct of official business and for all other purposes. The Historical Committee shall elect a Chairman and Vice Chairman from among its members and may elect a Secretary, who may or may not be a member of the Historical Committee and who may or may not be a municipal employee. The Committee shall establish its own bylaws.
