There is hereby created the position of Chaplain and Associate
Chaplain for the various Borough Emergency Services Departments, to
be known as the Chaplain Corps for the respective Department, and
the number and designation of such Chaplain and Associate Chaplain
positions shall be determined pursuant to the appointment of such,
from time to time, by the Mayor and/or Appropriate Authority.
The appointment of any Chaplain or Associate Chaplain shall
be on an annual basis with all appointments expiring as of December
31 of each year.
It shall be the function of the Chaplain Corps to provide spiritual
guidance and pastoral care to members of the respective Emergency
Services department.
Any person appointed as Chaplain or Associate Chaplain shall:
A. Be an ordained clergy member in good standing in the religious body
from which he or she is selected;
B. Serve on a voluntary basis, without salary;
C. Report to the Mayor or appropriate authority; and
D. Perform other special assignments, consistent with his/her training
in spiritual guidance that may be requested by the Mayor or appropriate
authority.
