[Pursuant to P.L. 2020, c. 67, effective 1-1-2021, the Code
of Mercer County has been amended to delete the term “Board
of Chosen Freeholders” and replace it with the term “Board
of County Commissioners.” In addition, the terms “Freeholder”
and “Chosen Freeholder” have been deleted and replaced
by the term “County Commissioner.”]

A. The Mercer County Board of Social Services shall consist of nine
residents of the County. At least two shall be women, two shall be
Commissioners and one shall be the County Adjuster when he/she is
not serving as Director of Social Services.
B. Citizen members shall serve for five years from January 1 and until
the appointment and qualification of their successors. The first appointments
made under this chapter shall specify two persons to serve for one
year each, and four persons to serve respectively for two, three,
four and five years. The initial members shall serve from the time
of their appointment, but the term of office shall be deemed to commence
January 1.
C. The two Commissioners shall be appointed to one-year terms and take
office in January of each year. The adjuster shall serve for the duration
of his term as adjuster.
Any vacancy shall be filled in the manner of the original appointment
for the remainder of the unexpired term.
Within 10 days after the first appointment of members and thereafter
annually during the month of June, the Board shall elect a chairperson,
a vice chairperson and a secretary-treasurer.
