[HISTORY: Adopted by the Board of Chosen Freeholders of Mercer
County as Ch. 2.20 of the 2003 Mercer County Code (Ord. No. 83-8). Amendments noted where applicable.]
[Pursuant to P.L. 2020, c. 67, effective 1-1-2021, the Code
of Mercer County has been amended to delete the term “Board
of Chosen Freeholders” and replace it with the term “Board
of County Commissioners.” In addition, the terms “Freeholder”
and “Chosen Freeholder” have been deleted and replaced
by the term “County Commissioner.”]
There shall be created in Mercer County, New Jersey a Mercer
County Disabilities Advisory Council.

The Advisory Council shall perform the following functions:
A. To serve in an advisory capacity to the governing body of Mercer
County and the Mercer County Department of Human Services with respect
to the organization and delivery of services to the Mercer County
residents with disabilities;
B. To assist the Mercer County Department of Human Services in the continuance
of an office within the Mercer County Department of Human Services
whose mission is to address the identified needs of people with disabilities;
C. To provide an opportunity and forum for professionals, providers,
public officials, citizens and consumers to work together to improve
services for Mercer County residents with disabilities.

A. The Mercer County Disabilities Advisory Council shall consist of
a minimum of 13 members and a maximum of 14 members, appointed by
the County Executive with the advice and consent of the Board of Chosen
Commissioners.
B. The membership of the DAC shall be representative of the various
socioeconomic, racial and ethnic groups within Mercer County.
(1)
Eight members to be appointed with a prescribed two-year term.
Those members will be parents of children with disabilities or people
with disabilities;
(2)
Up to six permanent members to be appointed who are representatives
of any of the following organizations (one member per organization):

New Jersey Division of Vocational Rehabilitation;
(c)
Mercer County Special Services School District;
(d)
Mercer County Special Child Health Services Case Management
Unit;
(e)
New Jersey Department of Human Services;
(f)
Mercer County Human Services Advisory Council;
(g)
Mercer County Mental Health Board;
(h)
A private, nonprofit organization providing services to people
with disabilities.
C. Members with a term of office may serve for a maximum of two consecutive
two-year terms.
