Pursuant to Section 11 of the Uniform Fire Safety Act (P.L. 1983, c.383) the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code and N.J.A.C. 5:70 et seq. shall be locally enforced in the City of Gloucester City.
The local enforcement agency shall be the Bureau of Fire Prevention.

The local enforcement agency shall enforce the Uniform Fire Safety Act and the codes and regulations adopted under it in all buildings, structures and premises within the established boundaries of Gloucester City, other than owner-occupied one- and two-family dwellings, and shall faithfully comply with the requirements of the Uniform Fire Safety Act and the Uniform Fire Code.[1] In addition to compliance with the above-stated codes and regulations, all residential and commercial structures shall comply with § 55-13(C) of the Gloucester City Code and proper installation of smoke detectors in those structures shall be certified by the Fire Official, Inspector or other duly authorized personnel.

The local enforcement agency established by § 48-2 of this ordinance shall carry out the periodic inspection of life-hazard uses required by the Uniform Fire Code on behalf of the Commissioner of Community Affairs.

The local enforcement agency established by § 48-2 of this ordinance shall be a part of the Gloucester City Fire Department and shall be under the direct supervision and control of the Fire Official. The Fire Official shall report to the Chief of the Department who shall report to the City Administrator.
The Fire Official shall be appointed by the Mayor and Common Council upon recommendation of the Fire Committee.
The Fire Official and inspectors shall serve under civil service rules and regulations governing paid fire departments. Any vacancy shall be filled for the unexpired term.
Such inspectors and other employees as may be necessary in the local enforcement agency shall be appointed by the Mayor and Common Council upon recommendations of the Fire Committee and the Fire Official.
The Fire Official, inspectors and other employees of the enforcement agency shall be subject to removal by the Mayor and Common Council upon the recommendation of the Fire Committee of the City of Gloucester for inefficiency or misconduct. Each employee to be so removed shall be afforded an opportunity to be heard by the appointing authority or a designated hearing officer.
Pursuant to Sections 15 and 17 of the Uniform Fire Safety Act,[1] any person aggrieved by any order of the local enforcement agency shall have the right to appeal to the Construction Board of Appeals of Camden County.
