[HISTORY: Adopted by the Board of Commissioners of the Township of Nutley 6-5-2001 by Ord. No. 2683 (Ch. 18 of the 1978 Code). Amendments noted where applicable.]

There is hereby created within the Township of Nutley the Domestic Violence Crisis Intervention Team.
The Team shall consist of an unlimited number of resident volunteers who shall be at least 21 years of age. Each volunteer shall be fingerprinted by the Nutley Police Department and complete an application, the form of which will be supplied by the Township of Nutley Public Safety Department.
Upon satisfactory passing a routine background check, volunteers shall complete a forty-hour specialized training program as developed by the Division of Criminal Justice pursuant to the Prevention of Domestic Violence Act of 1991.[1] Upon completion of the training program, volunteers may be named to the Team by the Public Safety Director, said appointments to be made at the complete and sole discretion of the Director.

The Public Safety Director shall appoint one or more of the members of the Team as Team Coordinator or Coordinators. The Coordinator shall be supervised by the Director or his designee.
The members of the Team and any and all Coordinators shall serve at and for the pleasure of the Public Safety Director.
The functions of the Nutley Domestic Violence Crisis Intervention Team shall include but shall not be limited to meeting with victims of domestic violence to provide support and compassion and providing information on available resources, appropriate agencies, hotlines, etc., and serving as a liaison with police and other agencies as appropriate.
