There is hereby created a Department of Police for the Village.
The Department of Police may consist of a Chief of Police, a Deputy
Chief, a police sergeant, police officers, clerk and such other members
as may be provided for by the President and the Board of Trustees.

All full-time, paid members of the Police Department, with the
exception of the Chief and Deputy Chief, shall be considered to be
members of the classified service and shall be appointed, promoted
and removed by the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners. All part-time
and unpaid members of the Department of Police shall not be considered
as members of the classified service.

It shall be the duty of the members of the Department of Police
to enforce all of the provisions of this Code, ordinances of the Village,
and all statutes or laws affected in the Village, and to preserve
order and prevent infractions of the laws and arrest violators thereof.
Every member of the Department of Police is hereby declared to be
a conservator of the peace.

The Board of Police and Fire Commissioners may appoint a police
matron who shall perform such duties as may be assigned to her by
the Chief of Police.
