A. 
No signs, except official signs, or safety and warning signs, shall be erected or altered in the Borough of Lawnside without first obtaining a permit therefor. Applications for permits shall be submitted on forms furnished by the borough. Applications for variance shall be filed no less than five days before regular meetings of the Board of Adjustment. Permits shall be obtained from the Zoning Officer or other person designated therefor by the Mayor and approved by the Council, upon payment of the following fees.
B. 
No fee shall be charged for the following permitted signs: official signs; no trespassing, hunting or parking; safety or warning signs; signs identifying schools, churches, hospitals, clubs, lodges, other organizations of a nonprofit nature; residence name plates and address numbers.
C. 
The fee for permits for signs five square feet or less in area, and not herein exempted, shall be $10.
D. 
For all other signs, the fee shall be $20 per square feet of sign area.
The annual license fee for signs shall be as follows:

The Zoning Officer, or such other person as may be designated by the Mayor and Council, shall be charged with the enforcement of the provisions of Sections 118-1 to 118-3 of this chapter. He is hereby authorized and empowered to revoke any permit issued by him upon failure of the holder thereof to comply with any provisions of this chapter. If such Officer shall find that any sign or other advertising structure regulated herein is unsafe or insecure, or a menace to the public, or has been constructed or erected or is being maintained in violation of the provisions of this chapter, he shall give written notice to the permittee thereof; if the permittee fails to remove or alter the sign or structure so as to comply with the standards herein set forth within 10 days after such notice, such sign or other advertising structure shall be removed or altered to comply with the chapter, at the expense of the permittee or owner of the property upon which it is located. The Officer shall refuse to issue a permit to any permittee or owner who refuses to pay costs so assessed. Such Officer may cause any sign or other advertising structure which is an immediate peril to persons or property to be removed summarily and without notice. The Zoning Officer may cause any sign or sign structure to be removed summarily and without written notice if it is an immediate peril or danger to persons or property by virtue of its construction or moorings.
