a. 
The Corporation Counsel shall appoint in the Law Department a First Assistant Corporation Counsel for Litigation and a First Assistant Corporation Counsel for Administration, one Assistant Corporation Counsel, a private Secretary, and such other legal assistants as may be authorized by ordinance. All persons shall serve at the pleasure of the Corporation Counsel.
b. 
The salaries of the aforesaid appointees shall be such sums as shall be fixed by ordinance and/or Mayor's Executive Order. Such compensation shall be in lieu of all other fees or compensation for the official services of these appointees.

a. 
All employees of the Law Department shall perform such duties as may be assigned to them by the Corporation Counsel.
b. 
The First Assistant Corporation Counsel for Administration shall, during the absence or disability of the Corporation Counsel, possess all the powers and perform all the duties of the Corporation Counsel. In case of death of the Corporation Counsel or of a vacancy in that office, the First Assistant Corporation Counsel for Administration shall act as Corporation Counsel until the appointment and qualification of a Corporation Counsel.
c. 
The First Assistant Corporation Counsel, the Assistant Corporation Counsel and any legal assistants shall, in addition to the duties regularly assigned to such assistant, possess such of the powers and perform such of the duties of the Corporation Counsel as he/she shall empower such assistant to exercise by written authority filed and remaining on record in the Department.
d. 
Upon the expiration of employment, resignation or removal of any person appointed pursuant to subsection 2:6-5.1, he or she shall forthwith surrender to the Corporation Counsel all legal papers and documents relating to the business of the City.

The Corporation Counsel is authorized, with the approval of the Municipal Council and within available appropriations, to employ such additional Counsel to aid in the trial or argument of such actions, causes or proceedings of importance in which the City may be a party or be interested, as the Municipal Council may deem necessary.
