For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
BUILDING
Includes any structure, or portion of a building, intended for residential, mercantile, business, factory, industrial or other use. "Building" does not include any accessory building located upon a lot with another building, the address of which other building is in the Borough records.
BUILDING NUMBER
The street address number assigned to a particular building, structure or portion of a building by the Borough.
PERSON
Any person, firm, association, partnership, group or corporation.

The owner or occupant of every building in the Borough shall cause the same to be numbered in accordance with this chapter.

The owner or occupant of any building shall ascertain the building number assigned to such building. A record of building numbers shall be maintained by the Borough and made available to the public during normal business hours.

The owner or occupant of any building shall cause the building number to be posted and maintained in conformity with the following standards.
(A) 
In residential areas, the numbering of buildings may be in the form of Arabic numerals or standard written or printed letters of the English alphabet. The symbols shall be not less than three inches in height.
(B) 
In residential areas, the building number shall be displayed on the front of the building. It may be located above the front door, above the garage door, on the side of the front door on the frame, on a deck railing or on a support pole. The symbol shall be not less than five feet from the ground. All numbering shall be visible from the sidewalk or the curbline.
(C) 
If a single entrance is used for more than one dwelling unit, all the units within such single entrance door must be numbered on the outside.
(D) 
In all nonresidential areas, all buildings shall be numbered. The numbering shall be located in the front of the building and shall be not less than three feet from the ground. Each number shall be not less than three inches in height and shall be visible from the sidewalk or curb.
(E) 
Where any building abuts an alley, the building number shall be included in the rear of the building on the rear door. The numbering shall be not less than five feet from the ground and the numbers shall be not less than three inches in height. The numbering shall be visible from a distance of five feet from the rear of the building.

No person shall number any building contrary to this chapter or fail or neglect to number a building within 30 days after receipt of notice from the Borough to do so.

Whoever violates or fails to comply with any of the provisions of this chapter shall be fined not more than $25 for each offense. A separate offense shall be deemed committed each day during or on which a violation or noncompliance occurs or continues.
